Marketing: Fiberstore’s 40G QSFP+ LR4 Transceivers

As speed and performance needs increase, 40G QSFP+ transceivers have become an integral part of overall system design. However, the transceiver design margins and parameters vary widely, and can be the difference between an optimized, highly reliable fabric and incompatibility issues that drive up support costs. Fiberstore’s 40G QSFP+ transceiver is optimized to fully leverage 40G switches and routers and provide state-of-the-art performance. This blog gives out a brief introduction of the 40G QSFP+ LR4 transceivers and the related products supplied by Fiberstore.

Introduction of the 40G QSFP+ LR4

Designed for 40 Gigabit Ethernet applications, 40G QSFP+ LR4 transceiver is a full-duplex and photonic-integrated optical transceiver that provides a high-speed link at signaling rate of up to 43.02 Gbps over up to 10 km over a single-mode fiber. The 40G QSFP+ LR4 transceiver is a hot-swappable module, containing a duplex LC connector for the optical interface and a 38-pin connector for the electrical interface. (The figure shows the structure of a typical 40G QSFP+ LR4 transceiver.)

Structure of 40G QSFP+ LR4 Transceiver

The 40G QSFP+ LR4 transceiver integrates the receive and transmit path on one module. In the transmit side, four 10G serial data streams are passed to laser drivers. The laser drivers control Directly Modulated Lasers (DMLs) with CWDM wavelengths of 1271, 1291, 1311 and 1331 nm; the output of the four DMLs are optically multiplexed to a single-mode fiber through an industry-standard duplex LC connector. In this process, the transceiver converts 4 inputs channel of 10G electrical data to 4 CWDM optical signals, and multiplexes them into a single channel for 40G optical transmission.

In the receiver side, the four 10G optical data streams are optically demultiplexed by the integrated optical demultiplexer; then, each data stream is recovered by a PIN photodetector/transimpedance amplifier and passed to an output driver. In this process, the transceiver demultiplexes the 40G single channle input into 4 CWDM optical signals, and converts them to 4 outputs channel of 10G electrical data.
